$5-a-Day Anniversary – On this day in 1914, the Ford Motor Company doubled workers’ pay to $5 per day and reduced shifts to eight hours. Henry Ford’s groundbreaking move improved morale, productivity, and loyalty—and helped shape the modern workweek. Ford also introduced employee profit-sharing and offered benefits that encouraged stability and family life.
